About Us
Higgletey Pigglety (Hig Pig) started as a hobby but soon became apparent that there were lots of unusual pets out there! We soon filled up with many 'pet' farm animals and a few equine friends.

Bluebell is a beautiful cob who out grew the garden she was being kept in. She had a terrible leg injury and soon after arriving with us we thought we may loose her to these injuries. The vet had tried everything and nothing seemed to be working, she had to have 6 month stable rest, but it didn't work, so the vet advised that we took her home release her into the paddock and then he would come out and put on down, the date was Carla's birthday! She was gutted and found it very hard to go to the field to see and look after Blue. The day arrived and so did the vet, he checked Bluebell's leg again and her leg was 75% better and she is still living with NANNA and has been with us for over five years. She is a companion only horse and she runs the field with Diddy, Rocket, Poppy, Shadow, Tom, Jerry, Val and of course Jack,  Bluebell is owned by Carla, one of the trustees.
NANNA animal rescue has finally moved down to Higglety Pigglety Farm Rescue and it is brilliant seeing ALL the animals living under the sky together.

How is a little idea of how it went!
The Tamworths put on a tremendous welcome party! As you can see they were bored to tears with all the moving and building and it wasn't very long before they broke out of the area and tried to take over and it has been an ongoing battle to keep them confined to quarters and it doesn't help when the newest additions to the piggery are small and shows the bigger ones how to do it!
The horses were wondering what all the fuss was about too  but it did not stop them from enjoying a huge feast or a rest in the sun!

The work with the animals continue day in and day out, some take a long time like Jack the donkey

and some not so long

Eddie decided he made a good move coming here, thinking visitors would feed him, but he soon learnt that feed time is in the barn just before bed. The rest of the time he can munch of grass and enjoy his and Stobart playground, or if they are really good they could play in the whole of the field and tease the other goats!
The other goats were so upset because they were kept now in check by fencing and this little upstart Eddie can run free!

Oswina has moved down with her family and is loving the freedom, she was born here but had to go to Addington Road because she was not quite out of the egg when her family started to trample all over her and Petrina took her home and hand-reared her and she has become a beautiful goose. Very loving, but now she has her own family she has turned her back on her past and realises she is a goose, not a human with feathers!

Was it the right move

Oh yes, hard work and determination, but we are there!

The Pig Familes

Meet Domino, the pot-bellied pig who was use for target practice.

Domino bought as a miniature pot-bellied pig who grew and grew and grew, until one day he grew too big to stay in his little garden in his little hut, so he went into a rescue centre.

There he became target practice for some very sad children who had nothing better to do than hurt a poor little pig, so he came to us.

After being with us for approx. 3 months we went and found him female companionship (Domino is castrated), Blossom and Daisy are Kune kune pigs and they also went to a rescue centre because their owners didn't realise the size they would grow.
Introducing the three was quite funny because Domino had two sty's to chose from and he would sleep in one during the day and the other during the night, but when the girls arrived he lost both his stys! Thank goodness it was summer!

He soon learnt to share his home with the girls and on a cold night all you can see is three little piggy tails laying in a sty together.

Some very sad news, Daisy passed away in December and Blossom has followed her this week 10/02/08 and poor Domino is not doing to good as he is missing them so much. We are madly searching for a new companion for him, but he is refusing to come out of his bed.

Meet the Tamworths

Then Wilber, Hyacinth and Bucket (Bouquet) came to Higglety Pigglety as three little piglets, they are Tamworth pigs and were bought to breed and increase the rare Tamworth breed, but when it came to breeding it soon became apparent that selling the piglets was not going to happen, just incase they had to go to slaughter.

So £180 later Wilber was castrated and he and his girls live together in a secure closure!
It is secure when we manage to keep them in it!

The Tamworths favourite trick is to chase the banana trailer and raid it as you can see from the picture below.

We always know when they have raided the trailer because they always forget to tidy up after they have eaten the evidence!
Shadow and Diddy the miniature horses.

Diddy came to Higglety Pigglety after he had a disaterous castration!

Diddy was castrated in a stable and sadly it went wrong, because he came around to quickly and bolted straight into the stable wall causing serious injury to his neck and shoulders.

On arrival, Diddy could hardly walk, he would hop up and then as if both front legs were joined together he hobbled up the field. Our vet, at the time, gave us 6 month and said the decission would be taken out of our hands if no improvement had happened.

Now Diddy is a little sod! He gallops up the field as if he is a young stallion. He makes us chase him around the field to get him to go into the stable at night and he is the first one up in the morning, he also has a stable mate, a ferrel tabby cat who just turned up one day.

Diddy may not live to a ripe old age but what life he has will be the best, freedom to wander the fields with his friends Shadow and Rocket and his little stable friend Worzel.

Shadow the little orphan

Shadow was only 4 months old when he came to Higglety Pigglety.

When Shadow arrived with us he was a very cheeky young chappie, more human than horse!

He has a very sad story to tell; He was born premature because his Mummy and other members of his family had been attacked by dogs and when his owner got to the field there was carnage everwhere. Katie, Shadow's mum, was barely alive and when the vet arrived she went into labour and gave birth to Shadow and sadly she died soon after.

Shadow was hand reared by his owner, who moved in and lived in the stable with him. At four months it was decided he should go on to a new home because he followed his foster mum everywhere.

When he got to us he was more interested in what we had in our pocket more than his food bowl, he was still on milk, mixed with feed, and he just loved to bite our legs and chase us around the field.

He is now a handsome young man, a little on the skinny side but makes up for size with oodles of character

This young man is Jackanory

and this one is

Mr Pocket Rocket

Higglety Pigglety is not here to re-home these animals they have already gone through enough they are here in their new forever home already!
